Conflict Resolution Technique | Human Resource Management
Which of the following conflict resolution techniques will generate the MOST lasting solution?
A. Forcing
B. Smoothing
C. Compromise
D. Problem solving
george (15½months ago):
I think it's D.
A: Forcing is a "win-lose" scenario which will very soon be transformed into "lose-lose". The party being forced to something will do everything possible to get back its lost position.
B: Smoothing will generate a "lose-lose" situation which will look like "win-win" for a very limited amount of time. Very soon it will become "lose-lose" with even heavier consequences.
C: Compromise is the most dangerous conflict resolution technique which leads to new conflicts. Compromise is a "lose-lose" scenario where each party gets less than wanted and doesn't get what was really required. Very soon parties will come back to the same conflict.
D: Problem solving means the analysis of route cases of the conflict and finding a solution which is a true "win-win".
For example: "My wife is sick and she stays at home. She has to sleep. At the same time house builders is doing some very noise work right in front of my house."
Forcing: "Stop this noise immediately or I call police"
Smoothing: "Darling, try to sleep, they will stop soon, I hope..."
Compromise: "Please, do it less noisy and my wife will use ear plugs"
Problem solving: "Let's agree that you work from 11:00 till 16:00"
