Cost Management | Customer Satisfaction | Gold Plating | Gold Platting | Quality Management

At the end of a project, a project manager determines that the project has added four areas of functionality and three areas of performance. The customer has expressed satisfaction with the project. What does this mean in terms of success of the project?

A. The project was an unqualified success.
B. The project was unsuccessful because it was gold plated.
C. The project was unsuccessful because the customer being happy means they would have paid more for the work.
D. The project was successful because the team had a chance to learn new areas of functionality and the customer was satisfied.

Vadim (14¾months ago):
My answer is B. The project was unsuccessful because it was gold plated. I guess this Project got Cost overrun as a result of additional efforts spent on out of Scope areas development.

george (14¾months ago):
Answer is B, I agree

A: Success of the project means that we met Scope/Cost/Time/Quality constraints. In this example Scope was extended without approval from Customer.
C: Customer being happy doesn't mean anything for the project.
D: Team very soon will have a chance to learn how to remove this functionality out of the scope. When this "happy customer" will ask them to fix defects in this functionality, which will cost much over the Cost of the project
